with a full time cook and housekeeper, for fishing and stalking parties. the estate welcome to ruantallain estate. ruantallain is a spectacular sporting estate of 20,000 acres lying coast to coast across the middle of the isle of jura with loch tarbert at its southern boundary. largely spread across the inaccessible western coast of the island, the estate boasts some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain, much of which can only be reached via boat or on foot. owned and run by the bury family since 1984 the estate offers fantastic and unique sporting opportunities for both fishing and stalking parties, as well as an exciting and diverse experience for family holidays. expertly managed by head stalker craig rozga and ghillie scott muir, the estate offers an exciting range of sporting and wilderness experiences for every kind of taste. as well as excellent stalking there is superb wild brown trout fishing and sea trout fishing on the river oisdale. for those family parties who like doing a bit of everything, there are also plenty of opportunities for mackerel fishing, lobster potting, musseling, picnics on the beach, trips down the loch or in the hill-machine, or simply just mucking about on the beautiful beach next to the house. a typical stalking or fishing party comprises up to ten people (minimum party size of six) who travel daily from the lodge down to loch tarbert (5 minutes away) where they board the estate sea boat, the blue marlin. they travel down the sea loch to a number of bays out on the west coast where there are two hill machines to carry the party either to the stalking set-off point, or to a choice of about fifteen wild brown trout lochs varying in size from 25 to 200 acres. at the end of the day the party re board the maplin warrior and after a spectacular trip back down the loch they arrive back at the lodge to find tea and scones waiting for them, followed later by a three course dinner. we generally have family holidays available in late july, august and early september. these are full board: scottish breakfast, picnic lunch, tea and three course dinner (drink not included). two experienced highlanders will be at your disposal to take you out by boat on the sea loch (loch tarbert) and weather permitting, on trips out to sea to explore the coast, fish for mackerel and swim from the beaches. there is excellent brown trout fishing on 25 remote and unspoilt lochs, reached by boat and then hill machines or on foot. you can stalk the wild goats on the west coast and in late august and early september go for a stag. this is an ideal family holiday to introduce children to the adventure and wildness of the scottish highlands and taste a few of the sporting opportunities. for younger children there is an ideal beach close to the lodge (which sleeps up to 12 with 6 double rooms and a single). please take a look at the photos of our family and friends in the galleries below and on facebook , to get an idea of the fun they have!
